Hard to believe but it is 4 years since I started Saying Your Goodbye. When I look back in some ways it seems like time has flown by, but in others I look at the lessons I’ve learned along the way and most especially the hearts of those I have been privileged to touch helping people say goodbye. Saying Your Goodbye was conceived at a time when I had just been told my services as Chaplain at a Long Term Care Facility were no longer needed. I had been there 7 years and had almost 200 residents that I had become friends with that I had to leave. There were many many tears…. questions like “What now?” “Why Me” “How will I pay my bills?” “Who is going to hire a 50 yr old?” Through the encouragement, love and support of my wife Saying Your Goodbye was born. From a practical point, I have a wonderful website, I have learned how to blog, create newsletters and network. From a personal point, I have shared intimately in the lives of countless people as we celebrated the lives of their loved ones who died, mourned their loss and learned to move on with them still in their hearts. I have also journeyed with people who needed someone to walk along side them as they worked through life losses, transitions or death of a pet.
I was also hired as a Chaplain at a new Long Term Care Facility, 4 months later. I love my ministry there as we work together towards a social model of care.
I would like to thank those who supported me, my wife Kimberly, my children Christopher and Karen and friends. Most of all I would like to thank the people who have entrusted the final service for their loved ones to me. It has been an honour!
I look forward to many more years of providing caring, personalized and professional ways to assist others in ‘saying goodbye’
